St. Luke Church of Uganda Palenga
was officially opened on Sunday 21st October 2018. This church was built with
support from Bishop Johnson Gakumba, Sr. Mary Okee, Oloya Willy and the
Christians of Palenga. The church is situated along Gulu Kampala road just
about 12 kilometers from Gulu. This is where Bishop Johnson Gakumba spent part
of his youthful years and when he became a bishop he promised to put up a
church in this place before his retirement. The promise is now fulfilled. We
give Glory to God for this beautiful place of worship.
Many activities took place on that
day including wedding of four couples, and confirmation of 67 candidates. This
colourful ceremony was also attended by many dignitaries including the Deputy
Speaker of parliament Rt. Hon Jacob Oulanyah who is also the MP for Omoro, Hon.
Lamwaka Catherine, Hon Okello D Peter Okao, the District Police Commander
Omoro, and the Prison Commander Gulu, Mrs. Margaret Orik. Most of the speaker
challenged the Christians to make this a place of worship instead of leaving it
empty. The bishop asked the Christians to use the church for Adoration, Confession
of their sins, thanking God for the many
blessings, and supplication.
